This is a great idea. I’ve only just started knitting again after a 10 year break. I’ve finished my first pair of socks = not brilliant but perfect as bedsocks. I’m eager to do some more so I’ll take on your challenge – although 18 PAIRS…not sure I’ll keep up!

Very nice! I love socks! They travel while knitting them and wearing them. These are lovely patterns and I am thrilled to add them to my list of must do. If only I could knit a pair every week I would be able to make all the ones currently on that list.

Hey Penny Reese I normally cast on knit wise rather than purl wise as it gives a bit more. I think I tend to cast on too tight anyway so this way it is a lot easier to control your tension.

For Penny Reese,
I usually use a needle 2 sizes larger than what I will be knitting with and use a twisted German cast on. Also if you need a bit extra room you can add a few extra stitches to the legs (be sure the amount will work with the pattern or just use the extra stitches for the top ribbing) or use a size larger needle for the legs, changing to the correct size a few inches before the ankle. I usually use a US #2 (2.75mm)for the leg and change down to a 2.5mm for the ankle and a 2.25 for the foot. Good luck!

I have a construction question for Lou the person. How did you come up with the toe decreases for your “Singing in the Rain” socks? It’s not the type of toe decrease I’m used to seeing. I’m used to seeing: k to last 3 stitches of needle 1, k2tog, k1, k1 on needle 2, ssk, knit to end, knit to last 3 stitches of needle 3, k2tog, k1, k1 on needle 4 ssk, k to end. I was about halfway through the toe before I noticed that I was making more than 2 decreases. Sometimes I’m not the most observant person.

So sorry I have taken so long to get back to you!
The toe decreases are totally down to the way that the feather and fan pattern sits. I played about with the decreases for ever and managed to come up with this way which worked by surprise. I hope it is just as good as the conventional method! Is it working alright for you? It will seem strange but trust me and if I have written the pattern up properly it will all work out in the end. Let me know how it is going!

These are a great pattern! Unfortunately I’m not the best at knitting so my mum is doing it for me. We have a question with the Keyhole stitching. It says on row three to repeat from *, but we are unable to locate the *. Could you tell us where it is please so I can wear these cute babies!!

If it is the droplet lace pattern you are looking for, it should be on page 4 of the download as a chart. Did all of the four pages download for you?
There is also some errata for singing in the rain, I will get all of this changed on the pattern and a new editied version put up soon, but for the moment here it all is!
The Droplet Lace chart is back to front, so read from left to right:
Round 3 of the Droplet Lace written instructionsshould read the same as Round 11.
The Heel Flap – should be worked on needle 1 (the first needle) not needle 3 (so that you start with the right side facing).
The toe shaping was nearer to 2 inches than 3 inches, which she said might just be her gauge.
And at the end of the toe shaping there are 12 stitches on each needle, 24 in total – it read as if you’re supposed to end up with 12 in total which could be confusing.

These are the most beautifully designed socks: decorative patterns, detail in the finishing of toes and heels, and the colors chosen are gorgeous. And to think one can download them directly! I’ve not done socks before, but this site is enough to tempt me. I’ll start with one, not a year’s worth; it will be ‘Sinusoida.’ The mathematics of it appeals to me.
